As a Christian, have you thought how wonderful it might be to have Bible study apps available for your iPhone? Your wish has been answered by numerous developers who offer everything from full Bibles to scripture searches and articles that are geared to help you with your studies. The following list contains twenty-five excellent iPhone apps that - for the most part - are free to download and use today.

This list is divided into two categories: Bibles and Bible study aids. Each link within those categories is listed alphabetically to show readers that we do not favor one resource over another. The links take you to the iPhone app site or to the manufacturers' sites where you can download any app you desire.

iPhone Bibles

  1. Bible ASV New Testament: Mobifusion presents the American Standard Version of the Holy Bible. View your favorite passages by book, chapter or keyword.
  2. Bible for iPhone: The ClearSight.org Bible is a Bible program created to be a usable program with the King James Version as its default version. Use links and highlights to search for verses or to link two verses together.
  3. BibleReader: This Olive Tree app allows users to read and study the Bible with your favorite Bible translations, commentaries and study tools anytime and anywhere. Version 4.08 supports bookmarks and personal notes.
  4. ESV Daily Bible: This Bible reading plan is from Discipleship Journal and provides two readings each day. The first reading alternates between Old and New Testament books, and the second takes you through a chapter or so of the wisdom literature and Isaiah.
  5. God's Bible: This app is an entirely offline version of the King James Bible. So, you don't need to be connected to the Internet to read the entire Bible from beginning to end. This app also contains a self-guided trax system, based upon the reader's personal dedication level.
  6. Holy Bible: Peej Studio offers this Bible app with many translations. The only time you need an Internet connection is when you want to download new Bibles.
  7. Kirk Whalum's Bible In Your Ear: Listen or read along with jazz saxophonist Kirk Whalum as he reads through the whole Bible in 365 days. Each reading lasts about fifteen minutes.
  8. KJV Bible Audiobook: Carry the Old and New Testament versions in the King James Bible with you on your iPhone for a donation to iTour Software (or, for free). Your donations support the Karina Association, which is working to help to improve the lives of Bulgaria's disabled children.
  9. LDS Scriptures App: Study the Scriptures like never before, with integrated content and features that make access easy, even without an Internet connection.
  10. NET Bible: This app contains a completely new translation of the Bible with 60,932 translators’ notes. It was completed by more than 25 scholars who worked directly from the best currently available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. The translators' notes make the original languages far more accessible, allowing you to look over the translator's shoulder at the very process of translation.
  11. PocketBible for your iPhone: Laridian Electronic Publishing has issued a free King James Version of this Bible. Laridian also carries a range of other pocketbook Bibles for reasonable fees.
  12. The Even Word: Some of the most well-known translations, including the King James Version, the Amplified Bible, the NIV, the New King James Bible, New Living Translation and many other translations, are included in this app. The app is not free, but the price is less than a cup of coffee.
  13. The Word of Promise: Hear audio from The Word of Promise New Testament Audio Bible as well as The Word of Promise Next Generation New Testament for today’s youth.

iPhone Bible Study Aids

  1. Bible Podcast for iPhone: Listen to all episodes of The Bible Broadcast with Tony Walker. New programs air every Friday that include teachings and preachings about Jesus.
  2. Bible Promises: This app provides 500 Bible verses organized by topics such as perseverance, work, fear and courage - all to help you in your times of need.
  3. BibleScope: This is a Bible study application designed to maximize the reading of the Word and to allow interactions. Add bookmarks, use keyword searches to find specific words, change font size and display two Bible versions simultaneously.
  4. BibleXpress: Two versions are available - an inexpensive 'lite' and a more expensive regular verions. A Christian iPhone user developed and tested this software during actual sermons, Bible studies and quiet times to produce an app that anyone can use to search, save, and share scripture and lessons.
  5. BTE Ministries Weekly Bible Studies: Listen to verse-by-verse Bible studies based upon the original languages in which they were written. These are audio-only files, and the Web site provides free study guides that include literal translations, Greek/English interlinear translations and overall diagrams.
  6. iTalk to God: This app facilitates a personal conversation between you and God. You simply select one of over 70 categories describing how you are currently feeling. iTalk to God then displays a series of up to 10 verses specific to how you are feeling, including a brief commentary on each verse. The "lite" version is free.
  7. Pocket Ministry: This is a new mobile Web site devoted to giving Christians resources on-the-go. This first version includes: Salvation, The Book of John, The Book of James, The Roman Road, Bible Prayers, Map a Church, The Ten Commandments, Daily Bible Readings, Share With a Friend and much more.
  8. StrongsSearch: This is a Bible search Web app that specializes in searching with Strong's Concordance Number. For example, if you want to look for the passages that include the word "thanks," simply type in the word in the search form or use Strong's numbers and push the search button.
  9. Sword Drill: This application allows you to get to any chapter in the bible with minimal keystrokes. This application allows you to quickly find verses when you need them.
  10. The Bible Story of Christmas: Tell your children about real story of Christmas this year with the actual verses from the Bible that speak of Jesus' birth. Taken from the King James Bible and a couple other versions for further reading at the end of this app, you can read the unedited story of Jesus' birth. This app is free.
  11. Truth Or Tradition? Enjoy over 1,000 free Bible-based articles that allow for searches by keyword or phrase. These articles are geared to Bible study and research.
  12. WhichVerses? A web app for iPhone and iPod touch that lets you do Bible quizzes. This app was developed to help you test your Bible knowledge or to memorize Bible passages.
